WHY USE BOILER WATER TREATMENT ?

Much has been written about water treatment but most will not apply to road steam.

Most water treatment is developed, not only to be used with pre-treated softened water and on the assumption that the steam plant is most likely constantly ‘in-steam’, unlike most town water supplies (hydrant water) which tends to be hard. MULTITREAT TS and TC are Tannin based treatments specifically developed for road and rail steam and where the feed water is not already pre-treated. The Tannin being an oxygen scavenger within its composition will attach itself to bare metal and so prevent or slow down any corrosion when the boiler is left idle as otherwise the boiler will simply re-oxygenate allowing corrosion to take place.

Many customers are now using our MULTITREAT products. MULTITREAT TS is a standard treatment suitable for most boilers and is an excellent product to use to prevent the build up of scale and will once introduced into a previously untreated boiler will start to lift off the scale from firebox and shell plates.

MULTITREAT TC comprises a multipurpose scale/corrosion inhibitor. Tannin is an excellent filming inhibitor (forming an iron tannate film) and oxygen scavenger. However for copper and brass components, an azole is incorporated to film and protect "yellow metals" in the system where the feed water supply may have a high pH level, which is difficult to monitor or find an alternative source. MULTITREAT TC does not have a high caustic alkalinity which would adversely affect "yellow metals".

MULTITREAT TS and TC contain a polymeric sludge conditioner which helps to mobilise and disperse the precipitated hardness salts of calcium and magnesium and helps to prevent them adhering to the sensitive heat exchange surfaces. More sludge in suspension will be seen to exit from the boiler blowdown instead of settling on the boiler tubes and end plates.
